On 14th February 2026, Sandaru, Isuru, and Minada from the YMCA of Pamunugama participated in the CH1 Camping and Hiking National Training Program. Held at the Lee Dasanayaka Scout Training Center, this one-day session was the inaugural step of the "Outdoor Living" initiative. The program focused on equipping 54 youth participants from across the island with essential survival, leadership, and survival skills.
Upon the completion of CH1, the three representatives proceeded to the CH2 National Training Program held on 21st March 2026. The program commenced in Kandy with technical training in map reading and knot-tying. This was followed by a 9KM hike from the Loolkandura Tea Estate to the summit of Kondagala Rock. Participants were divided into small groups to complete specific tasks that tested their communication and problem-solving skills in a high-altitude environment.
The training concluded with a focus on regional cooperation among the 28 participants from various local YMCAs. Technical guidance throughout both stages was provided by resource persons Mr. Lahiru, Mr. Ruwan, Mr. Hasitha, and Mr. Ramesh. The skills gained by Sandaru, Isuru, and Minada during these national programs will support the ongoing youth outdoor activities at the YMCA of Pamunugama.
