YMCA New Year Festival - YMCA - අවුරුදු උළෙල

YMCA of Pamunugama organized a New Year Game Festival for the children of the YMCA on 24 May 2022 at the YMCA premises. Over 100 children representing different departments including Children's Club, Makalause Dream School, Scout Group, Dancing Group and Pre School attended number of games organized under different age categories. 

Event started with flag hoisting. Kanamutto Gesima, Bag Race, Pillow Fight, Carrying lemon on spoon and eating buns were the highlights among 23 games held at the festival. YMCA leaders, Board Members, Youth Leaders gave leadership in organizing the event. 

President of the YMCA Dhanuka Jayamanne at the end made the thanking speech. He also mentioned that YMCA organized this event for children despite all the ongoing challenges in the country to give children the opportunity enjoy and relax so they can maintain their mental wellbeing.

දරුවන් සඳහා වූ අලුත් අවුරුදු ක්‍රිඩා උළෙලක් 2022 මැයි මස 24 වන දින පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමය විසින් එම භූමියේදී සංවිධානය කොට තිබින. මේ සඳහා සංගමයේ ළමා හවූල, අබාධ සහිත දරුවන් සඳහා වූ පසල, නැටුම් කණ්ඩායම, බාලදක්ෂ කණ්ඩායම සහ පෙර පාසල නියේජනය කරමින් ළමුන් 100 ට අධික පිරිසක් සහභාගී විය.

ජාතික ධජය එසවීමෙන් වැඩසටහන ආරම්භ වූ අතර කනා මුට්ටි බිදීම, ගෝනි රේස්, කොට්ටා පෙර, හැන්ද මත දෙහිගෙඩිය ගෙන යෑම ඇතුළු තරඟ 23 ක් විවිධ වයස් කාණ්ඩ යටතේ සංවිධානය කොට තිබින. තරඟ සංවිධානය කිරීමේ දී සංගමයේ නායකයින්, පාලක මණ්ඩල සාමාජිකයින්, තරුණ හවුලේ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් සහ කාර්යය මණ්ඩලයේ දායකත්වය ලැබින.

වැඩසටහන අවසානයේ ස්තූති කතාව සංගමයේ සභාපති ධනුක ජයමාන්න මහතා විසින් සිදු කල අතර එහිදී වැඩි දුරටත් අදහස් දක්වමින් පවසා සිටියේ, රට තුළ කිනම් ආකාරයේ අභියොග පැවතුනද, දරුවන්ගේ මානසික සහ කායික අභිවෘධිය සඳහා මෙවැනි ක්‍රියාකාරකම් නොනවත්වා සිදු කිරීමට සංගමය කැපවී සිටින බවයි.

YMCA Model Home Garden - YMCA ආදර්ශ ගෙවත්ත

Food Security has been one of the major concern all over the world due to various reasons such as conflicts, pandemics and poverty. Even though the malnutrition is one of the major concerns in Sri Lanka, food safety has never been seriously threaten as today due to its agricultural base in its economy.

Food security is also not just the quantity of foods available but also the quality of what you consume. Agriculture in Sri Lanka is highly addicted to the usage of chemical fertilizers. People in Sri Lanka have already started to experience the health consequences of this uncontrolled and mismanaged usage of chemical fertilizers. 

Lately the Government of Sri Lanka declared that the usage of chemical fertilizers are prohibited and all the agricultural activities must use only use organic fertilizers. This overnight, unplanned political decision has further escalated the food security concerns in the months to come.

As a response to the above situation YMCA started a Model Home Garden in its back yard. YMCA of Pamunugama had an unused land of  around 15 perch. Model farm is now in the initial stage where different plants and seeds are being planted using organic fertilizers. Once the initial set-up is finished  with the support of an expert YMCA will have the contribution of its members (child, parents and adults) for the sustainability of the farm and  it will be a learning experience on home gardening.

While the model garden maintained at the YMCA premises, we encourage the members to have their own home gardens at their homes, so they can implement what they learn from the YMCA model home garden. Meanwhile the YMCA will maintain a seed bank for the development of the model home garden as well as to provide seeds to home gardens of individuals. To secure the quality of harvest only organic fertilizers and traditional methods will be used.

We thank YMCA of Munich for their financial contribution to cover the initial expenses of the project until it become a sustainable programme.  

කෘෂිකාර්මික ආර්ථික පදනමක් පැවතිය ද අද වන විට ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දරුණු ආහාර අර අර්බුදයකට මුහුණ පා සිටී. ආහාර සුරක්‍ෂිතතාව යනු ලබා ගත හැකි ආහාර ප්‍රමාණය පමණක් නොව, ඔබ පරිභෝජනය කරන දේවල ගුණාත්මක භාවය ඊට අයත්ද
වේ. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය රසායනික පොහොර භාවිතයට බෙහෙවින් ඇබ්බැහි වී ඇත. මෙම පාලනයකින් තොරව සහ වැරදි ලෙස කළමනාකරණය කරන ලද රසායනික පොහොර භාවිතයේ සෞඛ්‍ය ප්‍රතිවිපාක ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මිනිසුන් දැනටමත් අත්විඳීමට පටන් ගෙන ඇත.

රසායනික පොහොර භාවිතය තහනම් බවත් සියලුම කෘෂිකාර්මික කටයුතු සඳහා කාබනික පොහොර පමණක් භාවිත කළ යුතු බවත් ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජය පසුගිය දා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. මෙම එක රැයකින්, සැලසුම් නොකළ දේශපාලන තීන්දුව ඉදිරි මාස කිහිපය තුළ ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා ගැටළු තවදුරටත් තීව්‍ර කර ඇත.

ඉහත තත්ත්වයට ප්‍රතිචාරයක් ලෙස YMCA විසින් එහි පිටුපස මිදුලේ ආදර්ශ ගෙවත්තක් ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. පමුණුගම YMCA සතුව පර්චස් 15ක පමණ භාවිතයට නොගත් ඉඩමක් තිබුණි. කාබනික පොහොර යොදා විවිධ පැල හා බීජ වගා කරන ආදර්ශ ගොවිපල දැන් ආරම්භක අදියරේ පවතී. ප්‍රවීණයෙකුගේ සහාය ඇතිව මූලික සැකසුම අවසන් වූ පසු, ගොවිපලෙහි තිරසාරභාවය සඳහා YMCA හි සාමාජිකයින්ගේ (දරුවා, දෙමාපියන් සහ වැඩිහිටියන්) දායකත්වය ලබා දෙන අතර එය ගෙවතු වගාව පිළිබඳ අදත්දැකීම් තුලින් ඉගෙනගැනීමට අවස්ථාවක් වනු ඇත. 

YMCA පරිශ්‍රයේ ආදර්ශ උද්‍යානය පවත්වාගෙන යන අතරම, අපි සාමාජිකයින්ට ඔවුන්ගේ නිවෙස්වලම ගෙවතු ඇති කර ගැනීමට දිරිගන්වන්නෙමු, එබැවින් YMCA ආදර්ශ ගෙවත්තෙන් ඔවුන් ඉගෙන ගන්නා දේ ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ හැකිය. මේ අතර YMCA විසින් ආදර්ශ ගෙවතු සංවර්ධනයට මෙන්ම පුද්ගලයන්ගේ ගෙවතු සඳහා බීජ ලබාදීම සඳහා බීජ බැංකුවක් පවත්වාගෙන යනු ඇත. අස්වැන්නේ ගුණාත්මකභාවය සුරක්ෂිත කිරීම සඳහා කාබනික පොහොර සහ සාම්ප්රදායික ක්රම පමණක් භාවිතා කරනු ලැබේ. මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය ආරම්භ කිරීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මූලික වියදම් පියවා ගැනීමට මියුනිච් තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමය ලබාදුන් දායකත්වය අපි ඉතා අගය කරමු.
