Pamunugama YMCA at the 2nd Asia YMCA Mission Conference – Hong Kong

Ridma Fonseka, General Secretary of the YMCA of Pamunugama, attended the 2nd Asia YMCA Mission Conference held at the YMCA of Hong Kong from 21–24 November 2025. The conference brought together over 70 participants from across Asia, along with representatives from Germany, England, and the USA, strengthening regional and global Christian fellowship within the YMCA movement.

Grounded in John 10:9 – “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved”, the conference focused on prayer, reflection, worship, and mission renewal. A key symbolic moment of the gathering was the reaffirmation of the Paris Basis, with participants signing it again as a collective commitment to the Christian foundation of the YMCA.

Ridma Fonseka, a core group member of the Asia YMCA Christian Mission Network, actively contributed as a small group leader, facilitated discussions, led a session during the overnight prayer event, and also led the morning devotion on 24 November.

There were 4 Keynote Sessions which led to discussions during the conference.

• Keynote 1 – YMCA Mission Review
  Mr. Joachim Schmutz, General Secretary, Munich YMCA
  Delivered during the welcome dinner on 21 November, setting the tone for mission reflection.

• Keynote 2 – Entering Through Christ: Strengthening Our Foundation
  Dr. Samuel Stephens, President, Salem YMCA
  Delivered on 22 November at Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre.

• Keynote 3 – Going Out in Faith: Expanding and Sustaining the Mission
  Mr. Peter Ho, General Secretary, YMCA of Hong Kong
  Delivered on 23 November at Yim Tin Tsai.

• Keynote 4 – Finding Pasture: Nurturing Vision and Partnerships
  Dr. David Newman, Founder and US Network Leader, CITY Movement
  Delivered on 24 November at the Grand Assembly Hall.

The programme also included two brief exposure visits: one to Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre for worship and reflection, and another to St. Joseph’s Chapel at Yim Tin Tsai, highlighting the integration of faith, culture, and community mission.

The conference reaffirmed the importance of collaboration, leadership development, and youth discipleship as essential pillars for strengthening and sustaining the YMCA Christian mission across Asia.

හෙල්ප් ඕෆෙන්ස් නව් සංවිධානයේ අනුග්‍රහකත්වයෙන් මේවරත් නත්තල් ත්‍යාග Christmas Gift Distribution sponsored by Australia’s Help Offense Now

ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ හෙල්ප් ඕෆෙන්ස් නව් සංවිධානයේ අනුග්‍රහකත්වයෙන් වාර්ෂිකව සිදු කෙරෙන නත්තල් ත්‍යාග ප්‍රදානය මේ වසරේදී ද පැවැත්වේ. 

එහි පළමු පියවර ලෙස පමුණුගම සුරස බාලිකා සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ දැරියන් පනස් දෙනෙකු සඳහා ත්‍යාග ප්‍රධානය පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ මැදිහත්වීමෙන් 2025 දෙසැම්බර් 15 වන දින එම මධ්‍යස්ථානයේදී සිදු කෙරිණ. 

හෙල්ප් ඕෆෙන්ස් නව් ආයතනය නියෝජනය කරමින් ත්‍යාග ප්‍රදානය සඳහා දෙදෙනෙකු සම්බන්ධ වූ අතර පාලක මණ්ඩල සාමාජික ඉසුරු පීරිස් මහතා සහ ප්‍රධාන ලේකම් රිද්ම ෆොන්සේකා ද සම්බන්ධ විය. 

The Annual Christmas Gift Distribution sponsored by Australia’s Help Offense Now was held this year as well.

As the first phase of this initiative, a gift distribution for 50 girls of the Pamunugama Surasa Balika Development Center was successfully conducted at the center on 15th December 2025, with the support of the YMCA of Pamunugama.

Two representatives from Help Offense Now, Board Member Isuru Peiris and General Secretary Ridma Fonseka, participated in the distribution and shared the joy of the Christmas season with the children.

මාකලෝසා පාසලේ දෙමාපිය පුහුණු වැඩසටහන

මාකලෝසා පාසලේ දෙමාපිය දිනය 2025 නොවැ.22 ශනිදා පාසල් පරිශ්‍රයේ පවත්වන ලදී. එහි මුඛ්‍ය අරමුණ වූයේ ඉගෙනුම් ඇතුළු වෙනත් ආබාධ සහිත දරුවන් පිළිබඳ දෙමාපිය වගකීම් පිළිබඳ මනා අවබෝධයක් ලබාදීම ය. මෙම වැඩසටහන සඳහා පාසලේ දරුවන්ගේ දෙමාපියන් දොළොස් දෙනෙකු සහභාගි විය.

මෙහි සම්පත්දායක වූයේ මනෝ විශේෂඥ ආචාර්ය ඩග්ලස් හෙට්ටිආරච්චි මහත්මා ය. එහිදී පහත කරුණු සංවාදයට ලක්විය:

  දරුවා තේරුම් ගැනීම
• අවශ්‍ය ප්‍රතිකාර හා ඒ සඳහා යොමුවිය යුතු තැන්
• ඔවුන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම්
• ඔවුන්ගේ හැකියාවන් දියුණු කිරීමේ ක්‍රමවේද
• ස්වාධීන වීමට ඔවුන් සූදානම් කිරීම
• එල්ලවන සමාජ පීඩනයන් හා හෙළාදැකීම්වලට මුහුණ දීම

උක්ත කරුණු කාරණා සරල හා සුගම අයුරින් සියලු දෙනාටම අවබෝධ වන අයුරින් ක්‍රියාකාරකම් හා සංවාද ඇසුරින් ඉදිරිපත් කෙරිණි. අවසානයේදී දෙමාපියන්ගේ බොහෝ ගැටලුවලට විසඳුම් සංවාද කෙරිණි.

මෙදින මාකලෝසා දරුවන්ගේ දෙමාපියන්ට ඉතා ඵලදායි දිනයක් විය.

A Meaningful Session on Caring for Children with Disabilities

A training programme was held on Saturday, 22nd November 2025 at the school premises to help parents gain a better understanding of how to care for children with disabilities. The session was conducted by Dr. Douglas Hettiarachchi, who explained everything in a very simple and clear way. He spoke about understanding the child as a person with disabilities, the treatments they may need and where to find those services, their rights, how to develop their abilities, how to support them to become independent, and how to face social pressure and negative comments from society. All these points were presented in a way that was easy for every parent to understand and relate to.

Dr. Hettiarachchi also shared many examples from real-life situations, which helped parents connect the ideas to their own experiences. He encouraged parents to observe their children closely, spend quality time with them, and celebrate even small improvements. He also reminded them that each child learns at a different pace and that patience, love, and consistency are key. Parents were guided on how to create a supportive home environment and how to work together with teachers, doctors, and therapists for the child’s growth.

At the end of the session, 12 parents who participated asked questions and received clear and helpful answers. The conference gave them confidence and hope, and many felt better prepared to support their children. It was truly a meaningful and fruitful day for the parents of Makalause children. 

ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයන් සඳහා වන ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය වෙනුවෙන් පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ පණිවිඩය

ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයන් සම්බන්ධයෙන් වන ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය සමරන අද දිනයේදී අප සංගමයේ ආබාධ සහිත ප්‍රජාව වෙනුවෙන් සිදුකෙරෙන වැඩසටහනක් වන මාකලෝසා සිහින පාසලේ දරුවන් වෙත අපගේ සුභ පැතුම් පුද කරමු. අපගේ පාසල ඔටිසම්, ඩවුන්සින්ඩ්‍රෝම් සහ ඉගෙනීමේ ආබාධ සහිත දරුවන්ට සහාය වන අතර, අපි සෑම දරුවෙකු තුළ පවතින ආවේණික ගුණාංග ඉහලින් අගය කරමු.   

ඔවුන් වෙනුවෙන් තීරණ ගැනීමේදී අපි සෑම විටම සංවේදී, මෘදු සහ කල්පනාකාරී විය යුතුය. ඔවුන්ගේ මානව ගෞරවය, ආරක්ෂාව සහ සතුට පළමුකොට සැළකිය යුතු යැයි අපි විශ්වාස කරමු. එමෙන්ම මෙවැනි දරුවන්ගේ දෙමාපියන් මෙම දරුවන් සම්බන්ධයෙන් විශාල වගකීමක් සහ කැපවීම් සමුදායක් සිදුකරන අතර ඔවුන්ව බලගතු කිරීමද අතිශය වැදගත් වේ.

ලොව පුරා සිටින සියලුම ආබාධ සහිත පුද්ගලයින් වෙත අපගේ සුබ පැතුම් මෙම විශේෂ දිනයේදී එක් කරන අතර  ඔවුන් සියලු දෙනා සෑම අවස්ථාවකදීම අන්තර් කරණය තුළ පූර්ණ මානව හිමිකම් භුක්ති විදින පුරවැසියන් බවට පත්වීමට ලැබේවායි අපි ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරමු.  

එමෙන්ම ආබාධ සහිත ප්‍රජාව අන්තර්කරණය වෙනුවෙන් ලොව පුරා කැපවී කටයුතු කරන සියලු පුද්ගලයන්ද සියලුම සංවිධානද අපි හිතා ගෞරවයෙන් මේ මොහොතේ සිහිපත් කරමු.

Message from the YMCA of Pamunugama for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we honor the children of Makalause Dream School, a programme of the YMCA of Pamunugama. Our school supports children with Autism, Down Syndrome, and learning disabilities, and we value each child deeply.

We must always be sensitive, gentle, and thoughtful when making decisions for them. Their dignity, safety, and happiness must come first. It is also very important to empower and support the parents of these children, who carry their responsibilities with great love and strength.

We extend our warm greetings to all persons with disabilities around the world. May they be respected, included, and supported everywhere.

We also thank everyone working for disability inclusion at different capacities. Your efforts bring hope and change.
