Promising start to the Children's Club Cricket Team

Cricket is a great game that can attract many in Sri Lanka. Beauty of cricket is that everyone love this game and in the YMCA you all are welcome to play this game weather you are good or bad in the game.

Newly formed YMCA of Pamunugama Children's Club Cricket team played their first Friendly  matches (10.08.2019) at Kepungoda Ground against the Cricket team of the St. Antony's Alter Boys Club.

YMCA team won their first two games and secured the best of three series with 2 consecutive wins. Mishen led the YMCA team and it was a great team effort. Matches were played despise heavy rain interruptions. YMCA team will continue to work as a team and actively involve in sport activities as well as other YMCA programmes.,

We look forward to come with a team uniform at the next tournament. Those who would like to help these sportsmen buying their uniform please contact YMCA of Pamunugama. Each set will cost around Rs 2,000/= (USD 8).

A day to remember - Trip with Makalause Dream School

At the Elephant orphanage

13 specially abled students of the YMCA Makalause Dream School went on a day trip to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, Pinnawala Zoo and Botanical Garden in Peradeniya on 20 July, 2019.

Students were accompanied by their parents, two teachers, several YMCA leaders and 16 Scouts and Guides of the YMCA. During the trip scouts and guides spend the day with Makalause Students sharing love and joy. It was very encouraging to see how the students of the Makalause Dream School got engaged with the scouts during the trip as they had to assist each other and share different abilities. 

It was a great experience to see the elephant bathing at the river close to the Elephant orphanage for all who joined the trip. Then they saw number of animals including leopard, bear, crocodiles, deer and etc. Final destination of the trip was the botanical garden where they walked around the garden and enjoyed various types of trees and flowers.

YMCA World Challenge and Founder's Day Celebrations

This year the members of the YMCA movement celebrate the 175 years of existence of the YMCA. With the visionary leadership of Sir George Williams, the YMCA was founded on 06 June, 1844 in Landon. Objective of finding the YMCA was to address the social and economic issues arose with the Industrial Revolution in the city of London.

Today (08 June, 2019) the members of Pamunugama YMCA got together to celebrate this special anniversary. During the celebration, members were educated on the YMCA history and its vision and mission. Members also shared with each other on how the YMCA has positively influenced their lives. Then the members cut a anniversary cake and enjoyed.

Following the meeting, members joined the YMCA World Challenge 2019. This s year the objective of the event was to volunteer 175 minutes for the society. Members painted the YMCA main hall and the logo. Then cleaned a store room enabling it to be used for Children's activities in the future. Parents of the YMCA Pre-School cleaned and painted the classroom.

Parallel to the World Challenge, Pamunugama YMCA launched a garbage collection system where YMCA is going to function as a garbage collection center for the houses of the children members of the YMCA. Children were educated on separation of garbage so they can practice this at their homes before they bring their separated garbage to the YMCA garbage collecting center.

Prayer Meeting for the victims of Easter Sunday Bomb attacks

YMCA friends and members gathered at the YMCA of Pamunugama on Saturday 27 April, 2019 evening to pray for the victims of Easter Sunday bomb attacks in Christian churches and 3 leading hotels in Colombo and Batticaloa.

පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි  සංගමයේ අධ්‍යාත්මික හා සුබසාධන කමිටුව පාස්කූ සමය නිමිතිකොටගෙන පවත්වනු ලැබු පාස්කූ වැඩසටහන 2019 අප්‍රියල් මස 11 වන දින රාතී්‍ර 7.00 සිට 09.00 වන තෙක් පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගම් ප්‍රධාන ශාලාවෙිිදි පවත්වනු ලැබීය. පාස්කූ සමයේ ඇති වැදගත්කම අවබෝධ කරගැනීම, සමාජ අභියෝග හා පරික්ෂාවන්ට සාර්ථකව මුහුණ දෙන ආකාරය, පාස්කූ සමය තූළ යැදීම හා මර්ධන ක්‍රියාවන් හි යෙදීමෙි ඇති වැදගත්කම අවබෝධ කරගැනීම වැනි කරුණු කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කරමින් පැවති මෙම වැඩසටහන මෙහයවනු ලද්දේ අප ප්‍රදේශයෙන්ම බිහිවු පුජක පුතෙකූ වන ගරු නිලන්ත රන්ජුල පියතූමන් විසිනි. මෙම වැඩසටහන සඳහා අප සංගමයේ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් ඇතූඵ 80 දෙනෙකූගේ පමණ සහභාගීත්වය දක්නට ලැබිණි. 

වැඩසටහන සදහා ප්‍රවෙිශය ලබා ගනු ලැබුවෙි පාපය හදුනාගනිමු යන තේමාව ඔස්සෙ අප සංගමයේ ළමා හවුල විසින්  ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද අභිරූපණ රංගනයකිනි. අනතූරුව පැමිණ සිටි  පිරිස කණ්ඩායම් කොට ඔහුන් වෙත තෝරා ගත් බයිබල් පාඨයන් කිහිපයක් සාකච්චා කිරිමට අවස්ථාව ලබා දෙන ලදී. ප්‍රථමයෙන්ම පිරිස තෝරා ගත් බයිබල් පාඨයන් තම කණ්ඩායම තූළ සාකච්චා කරමින්ද අනතූරුව එම අදහස් පැමිණ සිටි සියඵ දෙනා අතරේද බෙදාගන්නා ලදී. අවසාන වශයෙන්  ගරු පියතූමන් මෙකී සියඵම බයිබල් පාඨයන් පැමිණ සිටි පිරිසට අවබෝධ කරදෙන ලද්දේ කාගෙත් අවධානය ලබා ගනිමිනි.

බයිබල් සාකච්චාව අවසානයේදි වන්දනා වැඩසටහනක්ද පැවති අතර පැමිණ සිටි පිරිස ඉටි පහන් දල්වමින් මෙි සදහා බැතිමත් ලෙස සහභාගී විය.රාත්‍රි 09 පමණ වන විට වැඩසටහන නිමාවට පත්කෙරුණු අතර මෙම පාස්කූ සමය තූළ  ක්‍රිස්තූස් වහන්සේව හදුනාගනිමු යන අධිෂ්ඨානය පෙරදැරිව පැමිණ සිටි පිරිස විසර ගියේ සංගමයටද සිය ස්තූතිය පුදකරමින්ය.

Easter Programme 2019

Lent (Latin: Quadragesima, 'Fortieth') is a solemn religious observance in the Christian liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, doing penance, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, alms-giving, and denial of ego. (Wikipedia). 

Every year the YMCA of Pamunugama organizes an event to help its members for such preparation. This year's Easter Meditation Programme was held at the YMCA of Pamunugama from 7.00 - 9.00 pm on 11 April, 2019. 

Rev Fr. Nilantha Ranjula who is a young priest from the vicinity of YMCA of Pamunugama led the evening with prayer and sharing of the good news. Programme was consisted of opening prayer, sketch by youth, bible study in smaller groups, reflection by the priest and closing prayer with blessings. Around 80 YMCA members and neighbors attended the programme.
