Green Challenge - YMCA of Pamunugama

Children of the YMCA of Pamunugama take part in the event on 26th October, 2013. Udara Devmi who is a Change Agent too the leadership in organizing the event together with the YMCA of Pamunugama. Children were educated on the event and on the importance of taking care of the environment by the Change Agent Udara Devmi before they went to the beach to collect plastics and polythene garbage.

Pamunugama YMCA Pre-School Fare

Pre-school usually starts preparing for the Christmas concert quite early as they have to train the small kids for performances. Parents also has to prepare as there will be a lot of expenses to make new clothes and to hire different services for the concert.

To raise funds to cover above expenses, Pre-school organized a vegetable fare today by the Mother Mary Statue at Seththappaduwa, Pamunugama. Neighbors came and supported the kids by purchasing vegetables and the parents and the teachers help children with selling at the fare. They were able to make a income of Rs 7,500 where they had a profit over Rs 3000.

YMCA Children celebrate Children's Day in Pamunugama

Children's Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world, to honor children globally. It was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925 and then established universally in 1954 to protect an "appropriate" day. The officially recognized date of Children's Day varies from country to country. In Sri Lanka, Children's Day is celebrated on October 01.

Pamunugama YMCA organized a gathering of Children members of the YMCA of Pamunugama on 05 October, 2013 at the YMCA premises to mark and celebrate this special day. Sixty kids representing the Children's Club, Girl Guides and Scouts as well as the Pre School kids came together for this special event. Day started with a sharing of few thoughts on the hardships that children are facing in the world today and on the importance of keeping a close eye and working with children providing them the best environment to grow.


Then the children were divided into groups and YMCA youth leaders conducted different activities and games giving children an opportunity to work together and to enjoy the day. YMCA children's programmes very rarely ends up without a campfire. Campfire was the final event of the day and children showed their talents by performing dances, dramas and singing in-front of all the people gathered including fellow friends  parents and youth leaders. Special thank goes to the youth leaders of the YMCA of Pamunugama for giving a great time for the children of the Pamunugama YMCA by facilitating the entire day.
