Months of September - October 2023 Sri Lanka YMCA had the honour of hosting Mr. Shimada Shigeru, the Former General Secretary of the National Council of the YMCA of Japan, on a friendly visit.
During his stay in Sri Lanka, Mr. Shimada Shigeru many YMCAs in Sri Lanka. His final official visit to a local YMCA was to Pamunugama on 28 September, a significant moment for both him and the members of Pamunugama YMCA.
Mr. Shimada Shigeru spent the day engaging with delegates from the Staff, Board, and Youth at the Pamunugama YMCA. He shared his rich experiences as the General Secretary of the Japan YMCA, a role he undertook with great dedication and passion. His tenure in Japan's YMCA allowed him to accumulate a treasure trove of stories about the YMCA's history and its connections even with the World War II.

One of the highlights of Mr. Shimada Shigeru's visit was his unwavering assurance of support for the Sri Lanka YMCA. His genuine interest in the activities of the Pamunugama YMCA left a lasting impression on the local YMCA team. Together, they shared a local lunch, further strengthening the bonds of friendship and collaboration. Mr. Deepthi and Mr. Chaminda from NCY office accompanied Mr. Shigeru during this visit to Pamunugama.
