Pamunugama YMCA New Year Game Festival

New Year Game Festival is an annual event organized by the YMCA of Pamunugama to celebrate the New Year which commence in the 14th of April. This year the festival was held on 21 April, 2016 at the YMCA premises with the participation of over 150 children and around 100 youth and adults in the area. 

Event was full of games which are played during the New Year in Sri Lanka and they were lined-up under different age groups. Blasting balloons, Bag race, finding the coin, yought eating, eating buns, filling the bottle with water, Kana mutti, catching eggs, pillow wrestling, Placing eye to elephant were among the games held. 

Youth group of the YMCA did the preparation and organizing work of the event with the support of the Board of Directors. YMCA would like to extent gratitude to Mr. Roshan Fernando and Mr. Sampath Nonis for sponsoring for the gifts to winners.

Guides successfully complete the 3 day Camp

As a part of their training to get the Blue Sash (Second Grade) Guides held a Camp in the YMCA grounds from 08 April to 11. Guides from YMCA of Pamunugama, Ave Maria Convent, Newstead, Asirimath Balika Vidyalaya attended the camp.

During the camp guides learnt about out door camping, cooking, and various other activities. During the camp they went on a hike which included map reading and held a colorful campfire infront of their parents and friends. YMCA of Pamunugama thank Sister Mary Patricia, and the other leaders including Sudeepika of Pamunugama YMCA for making lot of efforts to make the camp a success.

Pre School celebrates new year with parents and teachers

Pre-school kids of the YMCA of Pamunugama participated for a new Year Festival organized by the YMCA. Kids enjoyed participating tipical new year games and competitions. Parents of the YMCA pre-school kids assisted the YMCA staff in organizing the event.













Aurudu Charithra / New Year Traditions

According to the traditional Sri Lankan calendar the new is celebrated in the month of April. Transition of the sun from mina to mesha is considered as the new year and this incident is celebrated auspiciously by both Sinhala and Tamil communities.
New year is full of traditions and colorful events which brings friends, families, villages and the whole country together. Today the preschool kids of Pamunugaama YMCA had an event to celebrate new year with boiling milk and enjoying new year sweets.

Investiture of new Girl Guides

Investiture ceremony of new girl guides was held today in the YMCA. With the ceremony, 7 new girls joined the Girl Guides Group of the YMCA. 

These girls have been receiving training for their recruitment for last three months under the guidance of Sudeepika (YMCA Guides leader) and Sister Patricia who is the zonal commissioner of for guides. Parents of the guides also joined this special moment of their daughters.

AGM of Pamunugama YMCA

Annual General of the YMCA of Pamunugama was held on 03 April, 2016 for the year 2016. Members representing various programmes attended the meeting. During the meeting the work of the year 2015 was discussed and the plans for 2016 also were presented to the members.

During the meeting important documents such as annual report, audited statement of accounts of the YMCA were adapted by the members while the new ideas were shared for the new year.

A new Board of Directors also were selected at the meeting and the number of young board members were further increased. Mr. Shelton Peiris will continue as the president for the new year along with Mr. Johannas Nico will continue as the treasurer. 

YMCA Guides and Scouts visit Kuruvita Camp

YMCA of Pamunugama scouts and guides have visited a scout camp organized by the 5th Moratuwa Scout Group together with the YMCA YWCA Scouts of Bronnoysund. Camp was organized at a campsite owned by the scouts in Kuruvita bordering the Siripada Forest (Rain Forest). Even though the YMCA scouts and guides planned to attend the entire camp, only managed to make a day visit due to exam season in schools and other practical problems. 

Scouts left early morning from Pamunugama on Friday 1 April and arrived at the camp around 9.00 am. From then the scouts and guides joined Moratuwa and Bronnoysund scouts with the camping activities. After that scouts had a nice time bathing in a river close to the campsite. 4 girls, 6 boys and two staff of the YMCA joined the trip.
