Traditionally a gathering to celebrate the season, this year's event took a somber turn as it spotlighted the escalating situation in Palestine, especially in Gaza, where continuous attacks by the Israel Forces have intensified the suffering of Palestinians.
The event served as a platform for solidarity, inviting various groups and individuals to express their support and concern for the people of Palestine amidst the ongoing turmoil. Among them, the Pamunugama YMCA, along with other attendees, passionately conveyed their plea for an end to the attacks through a moving song directed at those responsible for the violence.Distinguished figures, such as His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo Catholic Diocese, esteemed Reverend Fathers, Sisters, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Members of Parliament, and leaders from Civil Society Organizations, graced the event, lending their presence and support.
In a heartfelt address, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Sri Lanka shed light on the profound suffering inflicted by the ongoing conflict, expressing gratitude for the unwavering solidarity shown by the people of Sri Lanka. The ambassador appealed for prayers toward the vision of a free Palestine.Reflecting on this gathering, it becomes ever more apparent that compassionate action is vital in addressing humanitarian crises of such magnitude.
