The YMCA of Pamunugama recently had the honor of hosting a very special guest, Rolf Falchenberg, the leader of YMCA YWCA Scouts of Asker in Norway. Rolf's connection with Sri Lanka dates back to the early days of Scouting establishment in the Sri Lanka YMCA in 2002 - 2003, and over the years, he has become an integral part of the YMCA family in Pamunugama. His recent visit from 18th to 23rd July was marked by heartfelt reunions, productive discussions, and a shared commitment to furthering the partnership between YMCA YWCA Scouts of Asker and YMCA Scouts of Pamunugama YMCA.
Rolf Falchenberg played a crucial role in the inception of Scouting in Sri Lanka, offering invaluable support from the YMCA YWCA Scouts of Norway. His dedication and passion for youth development have left a lasting impact on the YMCA movement in Pamunugama and beyond. Rolf's initial visit laid the foundation for a strong bond that continues to grow stronger with each passing year.
During his stay in Sri Lanka, Rolf revisited his friends in Pamunugama, renewing cherished connections and sharing stories of their journey together in Scouting. He also spent time with the staff of the YMCA, gaining insights into the various programs that have have been running with the support of volunteers.
On 23 July morning Rolf attended a scout meeting and spent time with the scouts, inspiring and encouraging them to keep going. At the meeting, a new scout also had the honor of receiving his Scout Membership badge. Rolf's presence and support mean a lot to the scouts and scout leaders, motivating them to continue their journey with enthusiasm.
During his time with the scouts he also witnessed the Community Kitchen project run by the YMCA of Pamunugama. This initiative, made possible with financial support from Rolf's Scout group in Norway, together with the YMCA of Munich, showcases the spirit of international collaboration and a shared vision of empowering local communities. The Community Kitchen project aims to provide nutritious meals to those in need, specially among those who attend the Scouting Programmes on Saturdays.
He also met with the Acting National General Secretary of the National Council of YMCAs of Sri Lanka to discuss the prospects of reconnecting the Sri Lanka YMCA movement with the Norwegian YMCA YWCA Scouts at the national level. These discussions hold the promise of an even stronger bond between the two nations and a more profound impact on the youth of both countries.
On July 23rd, Rolf had a farewell dinner with his close friends and well-wishers. They thanked him for his support and friendship throughout the years, and everyone had a joyful time sharing stories and memories.
