New Year Starts With AGM

Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a good opportunity for the members of the YMCA to refresh and to start a new working year with new spirit. YMCA of Pamunugama had its AGM on Tuesday 26th March 2013 for the Year 2013 with the participation of 30 members. 

At the meeting, members discussed about the activities done during year 2012 and the financial flow in 2012. Reports of the programmes of 2012 and the Audited Accounts were tabled at the meeting and the members seconded the reports while the members agreed upon the proposed activities for the year 2013.

New Board of directors were elected at the AGM. 2012 President, Shivankara Ranaweera will continue as the President for the year 2013 while Nishantha Peiris was replaced with Ajith Hettiarachchi as the new treasurer. New Board consists of both youth exceeding 50% and experience leaders.

Addressing the gathering President Shivankara Ranaweera thank all the members and the staff who have worked tirelessly during the year 2012 and requested the same enthusiasm during the year 2013 to successfully accomplish the plans. 

Easter - time to think beyond suffering

YMCA of Pamunugama members gathered to discuss, learn and to meditate on the real meaning of Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Programme was held at the Pamunugama YMCA Main Hall on Sunday 24th March 2013 from 7.00 -9.00 pm.

Objective of organizing this event was to give an opportunity to the people around the YMCA to have an alternative perspective on Easter enabling them to move beyond just the suffering of Jesus Christ.

Song with visuals, short bible study, prayers were used while Rev Samidu Pathum shared his thoughts from the perspective of young outspoken priest.

During the entire event members were challenged to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and to move forward by doing the same what Jesus Christ did in his life. YMCA would like to thank Rev. Samidu Pathum, members who led sessions at the programme and all who attended the event despite heavy rains felt in Pamunugama.

Visit of secretary to Norway

Ridma Fonseka the secretary of the YMCA currently visiting Norway attending few meetings with partners and doners. During 8- 11 march he addended a GYP 2013 conference organized by the LNU. Lnuhas been the doner of the ICY Partnership programme between ICY Oslo and ICY Pamungama since 2007. After the meeting Ridma will have few meetings with the ICY Oslo volunteers and the staffof the Y Global.

He is supposed to join a meeting with Scouts in Asker and the Scout group in Asker is hosting Ridma till 18 March after his his conference with the LNU.

Pamunugama Youth Trained to Conduct Children's Club

Children's Club is the one of the priorities of the YMCA of Pamunygama as we believe that the YMCA Children's Club is the beginning of building a strong leadership for the YMCA. Several of the current leaders of the YMCA movement are a product of the Children's Club.

On 2nd March, 2013 YMCA of Pamunugama conducted a training for 11 youth who gave commitment to support the Saturday Children's Club Programme.

During the programme youth were equipped with the knowledge to conduct a Children's Club including educational activities, games, songs and etc.

Event started with a discussion on why we need a Children'c Club which conducted by Mr. Shelton Peiris. Mr. Aruna Shantha Nonis conducted a session on educational activities where the songs, newletters and many other small activities can be used. Later after the luncg Mr. Asheley Mendis led a session on conducting games and songs for a children's Club. As the final session of the day Mr. Roger peiris conducted a session on the importance of having a committed group of leaders to conduct the Children's Club smoothly.

With this training YMCA look forward to have more active participation of youth in conducting the children's club from next Saturday.
