Nurturing the Christian Mission: Insights from the Asia Christian Mission Network Core Group Meeting

Gathered at YMCA International House, Mumbai, from April 25th to 28th, 2024, the Asia Christian Mission Network Core Group brought together representatives from various YMCAs across Asia. Amidst the physical presence of delegates from India, Munich, Pamunugama, and Singapore, virtual participation from APAY, Philippines, Cambodia, and Pakistan added to the enriching discussions. Prior to the official meetings, delegates also joined in the 150th Anniversary Thanksgiving Celebration of the YMCA of Mumbai.

Under the guidance of Reverend Dr. Sam Stevens, President of Salem YMCA, the gathering found its purpose in reaffirming the YMCA's Christ-cantered foundation. Mr. Joachim Schmutz, CEO of Munich YMCA, set the tone with a keynote address emphasizing the significance of the Christian Mission Network. Discussions revolved around practical strategies to revitalize local YMCAs, with a focus on fostering fellowship, Gospel proclamation, and prayerful study.

Outcomes of the meeting included plans for future gatherings in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as the establishment of regular prayer meetings and a dedicated website for the Asia Mission Network. Ridma Fonseka, of YMCA Pamunugama attended the meeting as a member of the Core Group and highlighted the meeting's role as a platform for reflection and collaboration, signalling a collective commitment to nurturing the Christian mission within the YMCA movement.

YMCA New Year Game Festival

The annual New Year sports festival, organized by the YMCA of Pamunugama for the local children, took place on May 1st at the YMCA premises. This year, the event was organized and coordinated by the association's youth group.

Over twenty games were held, catering to different age groups ranging from Pre-School children to 16-year-olds.

The competitions included traditional favourites like the "Placing the Eye on the Elephant," pillow fights, lime-carrying races, "Gini" races, and breaking the lucky pot.

Notably, children with disabilities from the Makalause Dream School, overseen by the association, actively participated alongside their peers.

Additionally, fun games such as yogurt feeding, needle threading, and water balloon passing were organized for both youth and adults.

The festival fostered a sense of camaraderie and recognition among village children and those involved in the association's programs.

Enthusiastic participation from around hundred children was complemented by the attendance of over a hundred spectators, adding to the festive atmosphere.

අවුරුදු ක්‍රීඩා උළෙල

ප්‍රදේශයේ දරු දැරියන් සඳහා පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමය මගින් වාර්ෂිකව සංවිධානය කෙරෙන අවුරුදු ක්‍රීඩා උළෙල මැයි මස පළවන දින සංගම් භූමියේදී පැවැත්විණ.  සුපුරුදු පරිදි මෙවරද අවුරුදු ක්‍රීඩා උළෙල සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබූයේ සංගමයේ තරුණ හවුලේ පූර්ණ දායකත්වයෙනි.  

විවිධ වයස්කාන්ඩ යටතේ පෙරපාසලේ දරුවන්ගේ සිට වයස අවුරුදු දාසිය දක්වා දරුවන් සඳහා විවිධ වයස් කාණ්ඩ යටතේ අවුරුදු ක්‍රීඩා විස්සකට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් පැවැත්විණ. අලියාට ඇස තැබීම, කොට්ටා පොර ගැසීම,  හැන්ද මත දෙහි ගෙඩිය ගෙන යෑම, ගෝනි රේස්, වාසනා මුට්ටිය බිඳීම වැනි තරග ගණනාවක් මේ අතර විය. සංගමය මගින් පවත්වාගෙන යනු ලබන මාකලෝසා සිහිනය පාසලේ ආබාධ සහිත දරුවන්ද මෙම ක්‍රීඩා උළෙලට අනෙකුත් ළමුන් සමඟ උරයෙන් උර ගැටෙමින් සම්බන්ධ වන ලදී. 

තරුණ සහ වැඩිහිටි කොටස් සඳහා ද යෝගට් කැවීම,  ඉඳිකටුවට නූල දැමීම, වතුර පිරවූ බැලූන් ඇලීම වැනි විනෝද ක්‍රීඩා සංවිධානය කර තිබිණ. 

මෙම තරග සඳහා සියලු දෙනාම ඉතා උද්යෝගයෙන් සහ සතුටින් සහභාගිවීම තුළින් ගම්වාසී දරු දැරියන් අතර මෙන්ම සංගමයේ විවිධ වැඩසටහන් සඳහා සහභාගී වන දරු දැරියන් අතරේ සහයෝගය සහ හඳුනා ගැනීම ප්‍රවර්ධනය විය. 

දරු දැරියන් සියයකට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් මෙම වැඩසටහන සඳහා සම්බන්ධ වූ අතරින් එය නැරඹීමට සහභාය දැක්වීමට තවත් සියයකට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් සම්බන්ධ විය.

Annual General Meeting for 2024 held

The 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Pamunugama Young Men's Christian Association convened on April 7th, 2024, at the association's meeting room, with 28 attendees including members, staff, and the advisory council. After an opening reflection led by youth members, reports for the year 2023, including program and audit reports, were approved.

President Danuka Jayamanna, concluding his three-term tenure, expressed gratitude to members and highlighted the association's accomplishments and contributions to national activities. Incoming President Ajith Hettiarachchi pledged to uphold the association's work and thanked memmbers for trusting on him to carry the responsibilities as the new President. The role of Treasurer transitioned from Mr. Jude Hasitha to Mr. Ruwan Chandana, with Mr. Roshan Fernando and Miss Shiney Nonis joining the Board of Directors as new Board Members. 

The association celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024. The General Secretary provided an update on the ongoing 50th Anniversary Celebrations, highlighting past and upcoming programs. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the assembly joyfully launched the 50th Anniversary Scholarship project by providing 5 new scholarships to Advanced Level students under the Asker Pamunugama Scholarship Fund, supported by the Asker YMCA YWCA Scouts of Norway.

2024 මහ සභා රැස්වීම

2024 වසර සඳහා වූ පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ මහ සභා රැස්වීම 2024 අප්‍රියල් මස 07 වන දින සංගම් රැස්වීම් ශලාවේදී පවත්වන ලදි. මේ සඳහා සංගමයේ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන්, කාර්යය මණ්ඩලය සහ උපදේශල මණ්ඩලය ඇතුළු 28 දෙනෙකු සහභාහී විය.

තරුණ සාමාජිකයින් විසින් මෙහෙයවනු ලැබූ ආරම්භක මෙනෙහි කිරීමෙන් පසුව 2023 වසර සඳහා වූ වාර්ෂික වැඩසටහ වාර්තා සහ  විගණනය වාර්තා සම්මත කිරීම සිදු විය. තම වාර තුනක ධූර කාලය අවසන් කළ සභාපතිතුමන් වන දනුක ජයමාන්න සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන්ට ස්තූති කළ අතර මේ වන විට සංගමය සිදුකරන වැඩසටහන් පිළිබඳව අප සියළු දෙනා ආඩම්බර විය යුතු බව පැවසීය.

එමෙන්ම ජාතික මට්ටමේ කටයුතු වලදීද සංගමය දක්වන දායකත්වය පිළිබඳව සඳහන් කරන ලදි. නව සභාපතිතුමන් වන අජිත් හෙට්ටිආරච්චි මහතා තමා පත්කිරීම පිළිබඳව ස්තුතිය පළකල අතර කරගෙන ආ සියළු වැඩකටයුත් ඉදිරියට පවත්වාගෙන යෑමට උපරිමයෙන් කටයුතු කිරීමට සහතික විය. 

සංගමයේ නව භාන්ඩාගාරික ලෙස කටයුතු කළ ජූඩ් හසිත මහතා ද තම ධූර කාලය අවසන් කළ අතර රුවන් චන්දන මහතා නව භාන්ඩාගාරික ලෙස පත්විය. පාලක මණ්ඩල සඳහාද රොශාන් ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා සහ ශයිනි නෝනිස් මෙනවිය අලුතින් ඇතුලත් විය. 

2024 වසර තුළ සංගමය තම 50 වන සංවත්සරය සමරන අතර ඒ පිළිබඳව මේ දක්වා සිදු කර ඇති වැඩසටහන් සහ සිදුකිරීමට නියමිත වැඩසටහන් පිළිබඳව කෙටි ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමක් ප්‍රධාන ලේකම් විසින් සිදු කරන ලදි. එමෙන්ම 50 වන සංවත්සරයට සමගාමී න්වක සිසුන් 20 දෙනෙකු සඳහා ශිෂ්‍යත්ව ලබාදීමේ වැඩසටහන දියත් කරමින් ඇස්කර් පමුණුගම ශිෂ්‍යත්ව අරමුදල යටතේ නවක සිසුන් 6 දෙනෙකු සඳහා ශිෂ්‍යත්වය ප්‍රධානය සිදුකිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව සභාව සතුටින් විසිර යන ලදි. 

සංගමයේ පනස්වන සංවත්සරයට සමගාමී තරුණ කිතුනු මෙහෙවර කඳවුර

පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ පනස්වන සැමරුමේ තවත් එක්ක වැඩසටහනක් වන  තරුණ කිතුනු මෙහෙවර කඳවුරුදු 2024 මාර්තු මස 22 සිට 24 දක්වා පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේදී පැවැත්විණ. පමුණුගමින් දහතුනක් මීගමුවෙන් තිදෙනෙක් සහ කොළඹින් දෙදෙනෙකු නියෝජනය කරමින් දහ අට දෙනෙකුගෙන් යුත් තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගම් තරුණ සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් පිරිසක් මෙම කඳවුර සඳහා සහභාගි විය.  මෙම කඳවුරේ තේමාව වූයේ "ජේසුතුමන් සමග ගමන් කරමු" යන්නයි.

සහභාගි වූවන් පිළිගැනීමෙන් අනතුරුව මුණුගම තරුණු ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ තරුණයින් දෙදෙනෙකු විසින් ආරම්භක මෙනෙහි කිරීම සිදුකරන ලදී.ම එහිදී ඔවුන් පෙන්තකෝස්ත දිනයේ සිදුවූ සිදුවීමක් පාදක කරගනිමින් සංවාදයක නිරතවිය. ඉන් අනතුරුව වැඩසටහන පිළිබඳව කෙටි හැඳින්වීමක් සහ අරමුණු පැහැදිලි කර ගැනීමක් සිදු කෙරෙන.

මාර්තු 23 වන දින උදෑසන මෙනෙහි කිරීමක් සමඟ දිනයේ වැඩ කටයුතු ආරම්භ විය. ඒ සඳහා එම් මාවුස් ගමන පිළිබඳව ලූක් සුභාරංචියේ ලියැවී ඇති කොටස පාදක කරගන්නා ලදී. ව්‍යාකූලත්වයක සිටි ගෝලයින් එමමාවුස් ගමන තුළ ජේසුතුමා මුණගැසීම හරහා යම්කිසි පැහැදිලිතතාවයකට සහභාග නිර්භීතත්වයකට එළඹීම මෙම මෙනෙහි කිරීම තුළින් සංවාදයට ගැනිිණ. ඉන් අනතුරුව තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ පදනම සහ මෙහෙවර පිළිබඳව හඳුනා ගැනීමක් සිදුම් කෙරිණ. මෙහිදී පැරිස් පදනම සිටි තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගම් 2030 දැක්ම දක්වා සංවාදයකට භාජනය කළ අතර ඒවාට පසුබිම් වී ඇති කිතුණු ගුණාංග පිළිබඳව අවධානය යොමු විය. 

එදින සවස් වරුවේ මාර්ටින් කැනරිච් මහතා විසින් ජේසුතුමන් සමඟ ප්‍රායෝගිකව ගමන් කළ හැකි ක්‍රම පිළිබඳව සංවාදයක් මෙහෙයවන ලදී. දේව වචනය පෞද්ගලිකව සහ කණ්ඩායමක් වශයෙන් අධ්‍යයනය සහ මෙනෙහි කිරීම සඳහා භාවිතා කළ හැකි ක්‍රම කීපයක් පිළිබඳව ද තරුණ තරුණියන් දැනුවත් කෙරිණ.

එදින සවස තරුණියන් විවේකීව මුහුදු වෙරළේ කාලය ගතකර අතරි දෙවියන් ගේ මැවිල්ල පිළිබඳව මෙන්ම එම මැවිල්ලේ පංගුකාරයන් වශයෙන් සැබෑ කිතුණුවන් ලෙස ගමන් කිරීම පිළිබඳව මෙනෙහි කිරීමක නිරත විය. 

අවසාන දිනය ආරම්භ වූයේ එක පවුලක් ලෙස සහභාගී වූවන් කැපුම්ගොඩ දේවස්ථානයේ පැවති ගොබ් ඉරු දින දිව්‍යයාගයට සහභාගි වීමෙනි.  ඉන් අනතුරුව තාරුණ්‍ය සහ පාස්කුවේ පිළිබඳව ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමක් ශාන්තිලාල් හෙට්ටිආරච්චි මහතා විසින් සිදු කරන ලදී. එහිදී විශේෂයෙන්ම වෙනසක් සඳහා පාස්කුව තාරුණ්‍යයට අභියෝග කරන ආකාරය පිළිබඳව සාකච්ඡාවට ගන්නා ලදී. පාස්කුව තුළ ඇතිවන්නා වූ නැවුම් වෙනස සහ බලාපොරොත්තුවෙන් පිළිබඳව මෙහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් ඉදිරිපත් කෙරිණ.

වැඩසටහනේ අවසාන අංගය වූයේ ඉදිරි සැලසුම් සාකච්ඡා කිරීමයි.  ඉදිරියේදී සහභාගි වූ තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගම්යෙහි ළමා සාමාජික සාමාජිකාවන් හට මෙහෙවරක් කඳවුරක් සංවිධානය කිරීමට,  දයාවේ සේවාවක් ලෙස  අඩුපාඩු සහිත පාසලකින්ම අඩුපාඩුවක් පුරවාලීමට කටයුතු කිරීම සහ තරුණ තරුණියන් මුහුණ දෙන අභියෝග ඉදිරියේ ශක්තිමත් වූ මුහුණ දීමට අධ්‍යාත්මය ප්‍රවර්ධනය වන ආකාරයේ වැඩසටහනක් සංවිධානය කිරීමට ද එකඟ විය. 

මෙම වැඩසටහන තුළින් සහභාගී වූවන් අතරින් ඉතා යහපත් සබඳතා ගොඩ නැගුණු අතර් කිතුණු මෙහෙවර තරුණු ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමය තුළ ඉදිරියට ගෙන යෑමේ අවශ්‍යතාවය න් වඩ වඩා අවධාරණය විය.

50th Anniversary Youth Christian Mission Camp - 2024

The YMCA of Pamunugama celebrated its 50th Anniversary with the "Walking with Jesus" Youth Christian Mission Camp from March 22nd to 24th, 2024. This event, one of the anniversary celebrations of the YMCA, brought together eighteen enthusiastic young individuals, with thirteen from Pamunugama, two from Colombo, and three from Negombo YMCAs, for a transformative experience.

The camp commenced with a warm welcome and registration, followed by an opening prayer led by the youth of Pamunugama YMCA, reflecting on Pentecost Day's significance. Get to know each other session facilitated connections among participants, creating a sense of community.

On 23 rd Morning Mr. Ajith Hadley of Pamunugama YMCA led a session on "Walking with Jesus," drawing inspiration from Luke 24:13-24, exploring the journey from confusion to clarity. Following that session Ridma of Pamunugama YMCA provided insights into the YMCA's Vision and Mission, emphasizing its integration with Christian values. During this session participants had discussions and sharing on Paris Basis as well as the Mission 2030.

During the afternoon session led by Mr. Martin Knorich from Munich YMCA led participants in exploring practical ways of walking with Jesus in day today lives. He offered tips for individual and group Bible reading, empowering attendees to deepen their spiritual journey both individually and in community settings.

After that participants went to the beach and had a nice evening experiencing the God's creation as they had the beautiful sceneries of sunset in the backdrop. Evening sessions included reflective worship, featuring scripture readings from Luke 24:33-49. These sessions were led by various individuals, igniting hearts with faith and passion.

The final day (24 March) commenced with participants joining the Palm Sunday Service, embodying the spirit of devotion and community. Following breakfast, a guest speaker, Mr. Shanthilal Hettiarachchi, delivered an enlightening session on Easter's significance, encouraging attendees to embrace its transformative potential in their daily lives. This session was specially focussed on young people and Easter. 

Then the participants discuss future actions as a unified YMCA family, focusing on collaborative efforts to serve the community. Plans were made for a Mission Camp for children representing YMCAs, initiatives to support a school in meeting its needs, and the development of a youth program addressing issues with a special focus on spirituality.

The "Walking with Jesus" Youth Christian Mission Camp exemplified the YMCA's commitment to fostering spiritual growth and community engagement, empowering young individuals to live out their faith in in practical ways with Jesus. We also make a special thank to Munich YMCA for their financial support to make this camp a reality and Salem YMCA for trying their best to send a delegation even though it did not became a reality due to an unavoidable circumstance.  

Visit of Students from The Uni. of Kelaniya - කැලණිය විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ විද්‍යාර්ථයෙන් පිරිසක් මාකලෝසා පාසල බැහැදකී

2024. 03.19 මාකලෝසා දරුවන්ට ඉතා වැදගත් දිනයක් විය. මාකලෝසා පාසලේ මනෝවිද්‍යා උපදේශක ලෙස කටයුතු කරන අසේල පෙරේරා මහත්මා මෙදින මාකලෝසාවට පැමිණියේ කැලණිය විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ මනෝවිද්‍යා විශේෂ උපාධිය හදාරණ තෙවන වසරේ විද්‍යාර්ථීන් පිරිසක් සමග ය. මුලින් දරුවන් පිළිබඳ පාසලේ ඇති වාර්තා හා ලිපි පරීක්ෂා කළ මේ පිරිස දරුවන්ගේ දවසේ මුල් ක්‍රියාකාරකම්  නිරීක්ෂණය කළහ. 

අනතුරු ව දරුවන් සමග මිතුරු වූ මේ විද්‍යාර්ථීහූ දරුවන් සමග විබිධ ක්‍රීඩා හා ක්‍රියාකාරකම්වලට යොමු වූහ. දරුවන්ගේ මනස දියුණු කරවන අභ්‍යාස ද එම ක්‍රීඩා හා ක්‍රියාකාරකම් තුළ දක්නට ලැබිණි. එදින මාකලෝසා දරුවන්ට මෙන් ම ගුරුවරියන්ට ද අත්දැකීම් බහුල ආස්වාදනීය දවසක් විය.

19th March 2024 was a memorable day for Makalause Dream School. The psycho - social counsellor of Makalause came to the school with a team of undergraduates of the Kelaniya University. They are in the 3rd year and following Psychology Special as their degree. At first they with the guidance of Mr. Asela examined the files of the students and the diagnosis reports.

Then later on they became very friendly with children if Makalause and did a number of activities and games with them. They were all aimed at awakening the mindfulness of the children. Nevertheless they were really enjoyable to the children . For the Makalause it was a day of enjoyment wrapped with knowledge.

Plastic Awareness Event at YMCA Pamunugama - දැනුවත්ව ප්ලාස්ටික් භාවිතා කරමුඃ දැනුවත්කිරීම

ප්ලාස්ටික් සම්බන්ධව සහ ඒවා භාවිතයේදී ඇතිවන පාරිසරික බලපෑම් කළමණාකරණය පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහනක් පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේදී 2024 මාර්තු මස 16 වන දින පැවැත්වින. මේ සඳහා සංගමයේ බාලදක්ශ බාලදක්ෂිකාවන් සහ නායක නායිකාවන් ඇතුළු 35 දෙනෙකු සහභාගී විය.

ලබාගත් දැනුම ඉදිරියේදී භාවිතා කල යුතු ආකාරය පිළිබඳවද දරුවන් දැනුවත් කරන ලදි. එමෙන්ම ඉදිරියේදී ප්ලාස්ටික් වැනි ප්‍රතිචක්‍රීකරණය කළ හැකි ඉවතලන ද්‍රව්‍ය එක් රැස් කරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානයක් ලෙස කටයුතු කිරීමේ හැකියාව පිළිබඳවද සාකච්ඡා කෙරින.

මෙම වැඩසටහ සංවිධානය කරණ ලද්දේ දැනට සංගමය හා එක්ව තම අවසන් වසර ව්‍යාපෘතිය සිදුකරන NISD ශිෂ්‍යාවක් වන දිල්හාරි කාංචනා සොයුරියගේ මැදිහත්වීමෙනි. එමෙන්ම වැඩසටහනේ සම්පත්දායක ලෙස පරිසර ක්‍රියාදර ධනුක සහෝදරයා සම්බන්ධ විය.

On March 16, 2024, the YMCA of Pamunugama hosted a Awareness Program on usage of plastic, its negative impact and how to manage waste, engaging 35 participants, including scouts and YMCA leaders.

Event was led by Dilhari Kanchana, a NISD student currently working with the YMCA to complete her final year assignment. She was supported by environmental activist Dhanuka Nipun who led the awareness part.

Children were empowered with practical knowledge and encouraged to envision their role in a greener future. Discussions included the potential establishment of a collection center for recyclable materials like plastic.

පමුණුගම YMCA අනුබද්ධ මාකලෝසා සිහින පාසලේ දරුවෝ පමණුගම තැපැල් කන්තෝරුවට 2024 මාර්තු 7 බ්‍රහස්පතින්දා ක්ෂේත්‍ර චාරිකාවක් ගියහ.

පමුණුගම තැපැල් ස්ථානයේ ස්ථානාධිපතිනිය හා කාර්යාල මහතුන් විසින් අපේ දරුවෝ ආදරයෙන් පිළිගන්නා ලදහ.

එහිදී තැපැල් කාර්යාලයක කාර්යභාරය හා කටයුතු කෙරෙන ආකාරය ගැන ගැන දරුවන්ට පැහැදිළි වන ආකාරයට ඉතා සරලව විස්තර කරන්නට ස්ථානාධිපතිනිය කාරුණික වූවා ය.

ඔවුන් විසින් සූදානම් කළ සංග්‍රහයක් ද භුක්ති විඳි මාකලෝසා දරුවෝ තමන් ලියූ ලිපි තැපැල් මගින් සිය ඥාතීන්ට හා හිතවතුන්ට යවන්නටද කටයුතු කළහ. එදින අධ්‍යාපනික වටිනාකමක් සහිත දවසක් මෙන් ම දරුවන්ට ප්‍රීතිමත් දවසක් ද විය.

On 07 March 2024 the children of Pamunugama YMCA-affiliated Makalause Dream School went on a exposure visit to the Pamunugama Post Office, where they received a warm welcome from the postmistress and staff. 

The postmistress, very kindly introduced the workings of the post office in a manner easily understandable to the children. Additionally, the children were also treated with snacks. Durinh the visit children took the opportunity to send letters to their loved ones via post. 

It was a day with educational enrichment and joy for the children. 12 Children, 2 teachers and the manager of the school joined the visit.

මාකලෝසා සිහින පාසලේ දරුවෝ පෙබරවාරි මස 29 වන දින පමුණුගම දේවස්ථානයට ගියහ. එම රමණීය දේවස්ථානයේ විව්ධ ස්ථාන නැරඹූ දරුවෝ මීසම්පති ගරු ශාන්ත සාගර පියතුමා හමුවූහ. පියතුමා දරුවන් සමග සුහද කතා බහකට එකතු විය. එහිදී පියතුමාගෙන් තෑගි ලැබීමට ද මෙම දරුවෝ වාසනාවන්ත වූහ.

The children of Makalause Dream School paid a visit to St. Joseph's Church, Pamunugama on 29 February, 2024. During the visit they had a chance to meet the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Shantha Sagara. Rev. Father was good enough to have a friendly chat with Makalause children. Our children too were fortunate enough to get some valuable and useful presents from him.

Training Program Equips Environmentalists with Mobile Journalism and Cybersecurity Skills

In an attempt to empower environmentalists and youth activists, a training program was conducted at the Janaki Hotel in Colombo on February 28 and 29, 2024. Hosted by the Center for Environmental Justice. The initiative aimed to cultivate effective environmental advocacy through enhanced media skills and cybersecurity awareness.

The program, attended by 20 individuals from diverse regions of the island, commenced with an introduction to media standards and strategies for engaging audiences. Participants received hands-on guidance on mobile journalism techniques, including photography for social media platforms. Moreover, insights into the implications of the recently enacted Online Security Act were provided, fostering discussions on its impact on social media users.

On the second day, the focus shifted to cybersecurity measures essential for safe social media usage. Attendees were briefed on safeguarding against potential risks posed by various social media applications and ensuring the security of personal data, software, and devices. Emphasis was placed on protecting both individual users and their respective communities without compromising privacy.

The culmination of the program involved a reflective dialogue on gender-specific challenges in social media usage, identified through collaborative group discussions. Among the participants were five representatives from the Pamunugama Young Men's Christian Association and express gratitude to Mr. Dinusha Nanayakkara, an environmental activist instrumental who facilitated the  YMCA involvement, and to the Center for Environmental Justice orchestrating the  workshop.

ජංගම මාධ්‍යකරණය සහ සයිබර් ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳ පරිසර ක්‍රියාදරයින් දැනුවත් කෙරේ.

පරිසර ආරක්ෂකයින් සඳහා ජංගම ජනමාධ්‍යකරණය සහ සයිබර් අවකාශයේ ආරක්ෂිතව කටයුතු කිරීම පිළිබඳව පුහුණු වැඩසටහනක් පැවැත්වින. දිවයිනෙ විවිධ ප්‍රදේශ නියෝජනය කරමින් 20 දෙනෙකු සහභාගීවූ මෙම වැඩසටහන කොලඹ ජානකී හෝටලයේ දී 2024 පෙබරවාරි 28 සහ 29 යන දිනයන් හී පැවත්වින. පරිසර යුක්ති කේන්ද්‍රය මෙම වැඩමුළුව  සංවිධානය කිරීම සඳහා මැදිහත්වී තිබූ අතර ඔවුන් සමඟ ලංකාව පුරා ජාලගතව කටයුතු කරණ විවිධ තරුණ කොටස් හී දැනුම ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම තුළින් ඵලදායී පාරිසරික ක්‍රියාකාරකම් හී යෙදීමට පෙළඹවීම මෙම වැඩසටහනේ අරමුණ විය. 

ප්‍රථම දිනයේදී, මාධය කරණයේදී අනුගමනය කළයුතු ප්‍රමිතීන් මෙන්ම ජනතාව ආකර්ෂනය කරගත හැකි විවිධ උපක්‍රම පිළිබඳව සහභාගීවූවන් දැනුවත් කළ අතර සමාජ මාධ්‍ය භාවිතයේදී ජංගම දුරකථනය භාවිතා කර ඡායාරූප ලබා ගැනීම පිළිබඳවද මූලික දැනුමක් ලබාදෙන ලදි. මෑතකදී සම්මත වූ මාර්ගගත ආරක්ෂන පනත සමාජ මාධ්‍ය භාවිතාකරණ ක්‍රියාදරයින් හට බලපාන අකාරය පිළිබඳව ද කෙටි සාකච්ඡාවක් පැවැත්වින. මෙම දැනුවත් කිරීම් සඳහා පහසුකම් සැපයීම හෑශ්ටැග් පරපුර නියෝජනය කළ සාමාජිකයින් දෙදෙනෙකු විසින් සිදු කරණ ලදි. 

දෙවන දිනයේදී අවධානය යොමු වූයේ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය භාවිතයේදී ආරක්ෂාව සපයා ගන්නා ආකාරයයි. මෙහිදී සමාජ මාධ්‍යකරණයේදී භාවිතා කරණ විවිධ යෙදවුම් හරහා ඇති විය හැකි අනිසි බලපෑම් මැඩලීම, දත්ත, මෘදුකාංග සහ උපකරණවල ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීම පිළිබඳව සහභාගීවූවන් දැනුවත් කරණ ලදි. පුද්ගලීකත්වයට බාධා නොවන අයුරින් සහ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය භාවිතා කරන පුද්ගලයා මෙන්ම ඔහු වටා සිටින කණ්ඩායම් හී ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරි කිරීමේ වැදගත් කම මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කෙරින. වැඩසටහනේ අවසාන සාකච්ඡාව වෙන්කර තිබුනේ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය භාවිතා කිරීමේදි ස්ත්‍රී පුරුෂ සමාජ භාවය මත පදනම්ව ඇතිවිය හැකි තත්වයන් සහ අභියෝග හඳුනා ගැනීම සඳහායි. එහිදී කණ්ඩායම් සාකච්ඡාවක් තුළින් එම හඳුනා කෙරින.

මෙම වැඩසටහන සඳහා පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගනය නියෝජනය කරමින් පස් දෙනෙකුගේ කණ්ඩායමකට සහභාගී වීමේ අවස්ථාව උදාවිය. මෙම අවස්තාව ලබාදීමට මැදිහත් වූ පරිසර ක්‍රියාදර දිනූෂ නානායක්කාර මහතාට මෙන්ම වැඩසටහ සංවිධානය කරණු ලැබූ පරිසර යුක්ති කේන්ද්‍රයට පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ ස්තූතිය පිරිනැමේ.

වංගෙඩිගල, වංගෙඩිකන්ද, සහ බලතුඩුව තරණය කළ පමුණුගම තරුණයින්

පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමයේ තරුණ හවුල සහ කාර්ය මණඩලය ඇතුළු 12 දෙනෙකුන් යුත් කණ්ඩායමක් පෙබරවාරි මස 22 - 25 යන දියනන්හී කලුපහන ප්‍රදේශයෙන් ආරම්භ කොට වංගෙඩිගල, වංගෙඩිකන්ද, සහ බලතුඩුව යන කඳු මුදුන් වෙත පාගමනක එක්විය. එහිදී රාත්‍රී දෙකක් වනය තුළ කඳවුරු බඳිනා ලදි. 

මෙම ගමන ශාරීරිකව මෙන්ම මානසිකව ද අභියෝගාත්මක වූයේ එම ගමනෙහි තිබූ අපහසුතා මට්ටම නිසයි. මෙම ගමන හරහා කණ්ඩායම තුළ තිබූ කණ්ඩායම් හැඟීම වර්ධනය වීම මෙන්ම අභියෝග වලට එක්ව මුහුණ දීම සඳහා හොඳ පෙරහුරුවක් විය..

ප්‍රථම රාත්‍රිය තරමක් වැසි සහිත මෙන්ම විටින් විට මීදුමෙන් කඳවුරු භූමිය වැසී තිබුනද බොහෝ අවස්ථාවන්හීදී ඉතා සුන්දර දර්ශන මවමින් බඹරකන්ද, ලංකා ඇල්ල මෙන්ම හෝටන් තැන්නද වංගෙඩිගල කඳුමුදුන මත තැනුණු කඳවුරු භූමියට දිස් විය. 

A Journey with YMCA of Pamunugama Youth Club: Hiking Amidst Nature's Splendor

From 23 - 25 February 2024, the YMCA of Pamunugama Youth Club went on a hiking expedition, braving the challenging terrain from Kalupahana doubled bridge to the peaks of Wangedigala, Wangedikanda, and Balathuduwa.

With 12 enthusiastic youths and staff members, the adventure unfolded amidst the beauty of Sri Lanka's wilderness. Despite encountering a rainy night and intermittent mist, group persevered, rewarded with breath-taking views of Bambarakanda Falls, Lanka Ella, and Hortain Plains from the mountain peaks.

The journey tested the physical endurance and mental resilience, but also forged lasting bonds around as everyone shared laughter, stories, and meals cooked.

As the group descended from the heights on the final day, they carried cherished memories and a renewed appreciation for the transformative power of nature and the joy of shared experiences.

පාරිසරික ආරක්ෂකයින් සඳහා පුහුණුවක් Workshop for Environmental Defenders

පරිසර යුක්ති කේන්ද්‍රය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලැබූ පාරිසරික මානව අරක්ෂකයන් දැනුවත් කිරීමේ පුහුණු වැඩමුළුව 2024 ජනවාරි 23 සහ 24 යන දිනයහීදී කපුන්ගොඩ අමලූනා හෝටලයේදී පැවැත්වින. 

මෙම වැඩසටහනේ මූලික අරමුණ වූයේ පරිසර ක්‍රියාකාරීන් විවිධ කටයුතු සඳහා මැදිහත්වීමේදී අවධානය යොමුවිය යුතු නීතිමය කාරණා පිළිබඳව දැනුවත් කිරීමයි. එමෙන්ම මුතුරාජවෙල පරිසර පද්ධතිය සහ ඊට යාබද මීගමු කළපුව පිළිබඳවද සංවාද කීපයක් පැවති අතර සහභාගීවූ කණ්ඩායම ක්‍රියාකාරී කණ්ඩායමක් ලෙස සංවිධානය කිරීමද මෙම වැඩසටහන හරහා සිදු විය. 

මේ සඳහා කණ්ඩායම් කීපයක් නියෝජනය කරමින් 18 දෙනෙකුගෙන් යුත් පරිසර ක්‍රියාකාරීන් පිරිසක් සම්බන්ධ විය. පරිසර ක්‍රියාදර දිනූෂ නානායක්කාර මහතාගේ සම්බන්ධීකරණයෙන් පමුණුගම තරුණ ක්‍රිස්තියානි සංගමය නියෝජනය කරමින් තරුණ තරුණියන් තිදෙනෙකු සහ ප්‍රධාන ලේකම්ද ඊට සහභාගී විය. 

The Center for Environmental Justice organized a training workshop on January 23 and 24, 2024, at Amaluna Hotel at Kapungoda, aimed at empowering environmental defenders. 

The program focuses on educating activists about legal considerations when engaging in environmental interventions. Additionally, discussions held on the current situation of  Muthurajawela ecosystem and the adjacent Negombo Lagoon. 

Eighteen environmental activists from various organizations attended the event. On an invitation from the environmental activist Mr. Dinusha Nanayakkara, three youths and the General Secretary from the YMCA of Pamunugama also attended the event.

නිදහස් දිනය සැමරූ සංගමයේ දරුවන් 76th Independence Day Celebration

76 වන නිදහස් දිනය සැමරීම සඳහා සංගමයේ බාලදක්ෂ දක්ෂිකාවන් 2024 පෙබරවාරි මස 04 වන දින සංගම් භූමියේ දී රැස්වින. ජාතික ධජය ඔසවා නිදහස පිළිබඳව කෙටි බෙදා ගැනීමක් බාලදක්ෂ නායකයෙකු විසින් සිදු කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව පාගමනින් බාලදක්ෂයින් සරක්කුව වෙරළ වෙත ගියහ. 

එහිදී ඔවීන් ක්‍රිඩා කරමින් සතූටින් කාලය ගත කළ අතර හිරු බැසයත්ම නිවෙස් බලා යන ලදි. මේ සඳහා නායක නායික්වන් ඇතුළු බාලදක්ෂයින් 30 දෙනෙකූ සහභාගි විය. 

On February 4, 2024, in honor of the 76th Independence Day, members of the Scout YMCA Scout Group gathered at the YMCA ground. Following the raising of the national flag and an speech on freedom delivered by one of the scout leaders, the group marched to Sarakkuwa Beach.

Once at the beach, scouts played Frisbee, Football and Volleyball. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, scouts headed home. In total, 30 scouts, led by their leaders, participated in this event.
