Pamunugama YMCA Celebrates the 181st Founder's Day

George Williams
The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), founded by George Williams in London on June 6, 1844, celebrates its 181st anniversary this year. To mark this global milestone, YMCA movements in over 120 countries organized various commemorative programs.

Joining in the global celebration, the Pamunugama YMCA held a special commemorative event at its premises on June 7. During the program, Mr. Aruna Shantha Nonis, a member of the association’s advisory board, delivered a presentation on the history of the YMCA. The General Secretary also addressed the gathering, sharing updates on the association’s current activities and ongoing programs.

To conclude the event, participants took part in a tree planting ceremony at the association’s model farm, symbolizing growth and sustainability in honor of this significant occasion.

Approximately 50 people attended the event, including children’s and adult members of the YMCA, as well as children and parents from the Makalause Dream School.
