Farewell to a Pioneer

Nimal Ranjith Policalf Fonseka
Date of Birth: 26.01.1952     Passed Away: 08.08.2024

Comrade Ranjith served the people of our community with unparalleled dedication, contributing not only his labor, knowledge, and time but also his financial resources for the development of the YMCA, originally known as Sasthuma, until he was stricken by illness.

In his service, the status or knowledge of the person in need was irrelevant. If there is anyone in this area who has not received help from him, it is likely because they never needed any.
Since the 1970s, he has been a pioneer in the YMCA’s struggle, rallying the youth against social injustices and corruption.

If not for his willingness to shoulder the burdens of establishing projects like the Settappaduwa Devamata Mandapam, the rural bank, the YMCA center, funeral aid service, fisheries, and relief services, this area would have lost many of the blessings it enjoys today.

Though he sacrificed much in taking on these responsibilities, he remained steadfast and unwavering.
The YMCA stands strong today because of pillars like him. It is an honor for all who benefit from his work to bow down in respect for him.

The greatest tribute we can offer to the social activist Ranjith Fonseka is for the current YMCA members to continue upholding the physical and spiritual values that he helped establish.
"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith." (Paul)

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to not only a pioneering leader but also a dear friend, brother, and source of strength. We wish you a peaceful journey ahead.
